Almost 58% of UK landlords refuse their tenants’ energy efficiency improvement requests, poll suggests

More than half of the UK’s residential landlords have refused their tenants’ requests to implement energy efficiency improvements, a recent online survey conducted by letting agent PropertyLetByUs has been able to suggest.

The survey also found that 76% of tenants claim the property they rent has an old gas boiler, which is unreliable and 48% say their property does not have double glazing.

According to data from the European Union it is estimated that over 10 million British families live in a home with a leaking roof, damp walls or rotting windows. Damp, condensation and mould is a big problem in many rental properties as a result of older, single glazed homes.

Under the new legislation, if a tenant requests a more efficient home and the landlord fails to comply, the landlord could ultimately be forced to pay a penalty notice.

‘It is estimated that around one million tenants are paying as much as £1,000 a year more for heating than the average annual bill of £1,265. These excessive costs are mainly down to poorly insulated homes, many of which are thought to be the oldest and leakiest rental properties in Europe,’ said Jane Morris, managing director of PropertyLetByUs.

Wireless programmable TRVs – energy efficiency improvements slashing bills by up to 30%

Wireless programmable thermostatic radiator valves offer the best returns in terms of energy efficiency and overall installation costs. The HeatSave wireless TRVs enable users to set specific functioning times for each valve, and, since radiators are individually controlled, home owners are fully capable to maximise the zoning potential and reduce energy consumption in those areas that are not used for longer periods of time (as for example, dining or sitting rooms and kitchens during the night, etc.).

Additionally, the HeatSave wireless thermostatic radiator valves also provide an automatic exercising feature when unused for 7 days, whose purpose is to minimise seizing of radiator valves in warmer months.

All in all, the HeatSave TRVs enable users to achieve some pretty impressive savings, as they will help reduce your heating bills by up to 30%, especially when coupled with the HeatingSave Building Energy Management System.
