College energy saving loan scheme application deadline approaches

Colleges who want to apply for a share of the £5 million College Energy Fund designed to help them implement energy saving measures can still do so until the end of the month, a media news report on this matter has been able to reveal.

Run by Salix, the scheme it is open to any further education (FE) college in England, Scotland and Wales which gets a majority of its income directly from the public sector. The loan will be paid back to Salix directly by direct debit on a six-monthly basis over four years.

In order to be eligible for this scheme, projects must meet a few criteria:

– A maximum 5 year payback period

– Less than £100 per tonne of CO2 over the lifetime of the project

– Projects over £100,000 require a Salix Business Case

Salix was set up in 2004 by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and since then has funded £31 million of energy efficiency projects in 201 FE colleges.

Any modern building, especially those designed to meet the specific requirements set in the educational segment, will certainly require a very effective energy management system to be put in place, and that’s exactly where the HeatSave programmable wireless thermostatic valves can really come in handy.

The HeatSave wireless thermostatic valves represent a very good solution for the healthcare industry, where energy costs are 2nd only to labour costs. That’s because the TRVs can help customers slash their energy bills by up to an impressive 30 percent by allowing them to thoroughly control the heating patterns for every single one of their radiators.

Moreover, it’s quite likely that the hospital could benefit from the financial advantages provided by the Government’s Green Deal scheme, given the fact that the HeatSave valves represent an approved measure to control radiators under the aforementioned programme.
