Wireless thermostatic radiator valves – the perfect tools for landlords doubling as heat suppliers

The Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations that came into force at the end of 2014 brought about a set of new rules that any landlord of a commercial or residential multi-occupied building who supplies (and charges for) what is known as “communal heating”, that is heating, cooling or hot water from a central source to tenants, has to adhere to.

If cost effective and technically feasible to do so, the landlord (known as a “heat supplier” under the regulations) must ensure that meters (or, in certain circumstances, “heat cost allocators” and “thermostatic radiator valves”) are installed to measure the consumption of heating, cooling and hot water by each tenant.

Landlords are under a duty to notify the National Measurement Office of the communal heating system and provide details of its location, type of building and the number of tenants, plus estimates for the yearly heating capacity, heat generated and heat supplied.

The deadline for notification of existing systems is 31 December 2015.

The HeatSave wireless TRVs are the best tools available for landlords who’re looking to adhere to this new set of rules in a fast and easy manner.

They enable users to set specific functioning times for each valve, and, since radiators are individually controlled, home owners are fully capable to maximise the zoning potential and reduce energy consumption in those areas that are not used for longer periods of time (as for example, dining or sitting rooms and kitchens during the night, etc.).

Additionally, the HeatSave wireless thermostatic radiator valves also provide an automatic exercising feature when unused for 7 days, whose purpose is to minimise seizing of radiator valves in warmer months.

All in all, the HeatSave TRVs enable users to achieve some pretty impressive savings, as they will help reduce your heating bills by up to 30%, especially when coupled with the HeatingSave Building Energy Management System.
